Think for a second about the things you crave. What
do you do when you crave a certain type of food? Do you act on that desire and
indulge, or do you refrain? What if you desire God the way you desire
chocolate, Mexican food, or soft drinks?
Our lives often reflect that which we value. What do you value or what
do you treasure? “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (v.
21).” The Greatest Treasure in the world spoke these words to us. Why is it
that so many of us live a life that treasures the world above Jesus, the
Messiah? “You cannot serve both God and possessions (v. 24).” What do you
treasure above all? Maybe it is money, family, happiness, joy, or health. Stop
looking to earthly things for pleasure and happiness. Instead, seek God for
these things. In His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand are
pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11). Ask yourself again, what do you crave in
life? Do you crave wealth, relationships, or chocolate?
Let us be a people who
crave God above all. Let us desire the God Almighty who reigns supreme over the
entire universe, who sent His Son to bear our sin so that we might be the
righteousness of God. I heard a preacher once say that we don’t honor fully
what we don’t enjoy. How can we ever lead people to find satisfaction in Jesus
Christ when we aren’t even seeking satisfaction in Him? No one will come to
know Christ because you enjoy and treasure your possessions more than you enjoy
Him.
